Service Tasmania Bond Payment: How In-Person Bond Lodgement Works

The In-Person Alternative to MyBond Online Payment

Most rental bonds in Tasmania are managed through the MyBond portal. For people without digital access, a hard-copy bond lodgement form can be lodged in person at a Service Tasmania service centre with payment to the Rental Deposit Authority.

Service Tasmania service centres are the in-person option. A tenant can take the prescribed hard-copy bond lodgement form to a service centre and submit it with payment by EFTPOS, cheque, or bank draft. This route does not depend on a prior online MyBond lodgement.

The important distinction for landlords: for the paper route, the hard-copy form is lodged at Service Tasmania with the payment. For online lodgement, create the record in MyBond first and follow its payment instructions.

How the Workflow Runs

The in-person path uses a paper lodgement form and payment at a service centre.

  1. Complete the paper lodgement form — use the prescribed hard-copy bond form for the tenancy.
  2. Take the form and payment to a Service Tasmania centre — payment methods listed for this route are EFTPOS, cheque, or bank draft.
  3. Service Tasmania processes the submission — the form and payment are lodged for the Rental Deposit Authority.
  4. Keep the transaction receipt — retain the counter receipt with the tenancy records.
  5. Confirm the bond is lodged — after the RDA confirms receipt of cleared funds, it issues a digital Bond Lodgement Certificate to the registered parties.

The certificate confirms the bond is lodged. The two-to-three business-day operational window applies when a private landlord receives bond funds directly; when the tenant pays the RDA through the Service Tasmania paper route, confirm the RDA's receipt in the lodgement record.

What Service Tasmania Cannot Do

Service Tasmania centres can accept hard-copy bond lodgement forms with payment, but staff process transactions rather than provide tenancy advice. They cannot:

  • Provide landlord compliance advice or legal guidance
  • Inspect condition reports or prepare a landlord's bond-dispute evidence
  • Resolve an end-of-tenancy claim; disputed claims are handled through the Residential Tenancy Commissioner process

Before travelling, check the current Service Tasmania instructions for the required paper form and payment method. For online lodgement, follow the steps shown in MyBond; the paper route can be lodged at a service centre.

Why This Matters for Your Timeline

If you receive bond money directly, the two-to-three business-day operational window runs from your receipt of the funds. In the paper route described here, the tenant lodges the form and payment for the RDA, so confirm the Authority has received the bond and issued its certificate.

Two ways to manage this:

  1. Complete the paper form promptly and give it to the tenant with the payment instructions. Make sure the tenant can submit both at a service centre without delay.
  2. Have the tenant pay the RDA directly through MyBond online if possible, and reserve the Service Tasmania path for genuine cases where online payment is not feasible.

Either way, keep a record of when the lodgement was submitted and when the tenant made the payment. If a compliance query arises, you can show when the RDA received the bond and whether there was a delay in submitting the form or payment.

Service Centre Locations

Service Tasmania operates centres across the state — Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, and regional towns. Hours vary by location, and some smaller centres close at midday on certain weekdays. Check the Service Tasmania website for current locations and hours before sending your tenant to a specific centre, particularly if the lodgement deadline is tight.

Our Tasmania Rental Bond Guide includes the full MyBond lodgement workflow for both online and in-person payment paths, with a timeline tracker that flags when the statutory deadline is approaching.
