Landlord Registration Login and Account Recovery in Northern Ireland

Logging Into Your Landlord Registration Account

Your landlord registration account lives on the nidirect portal — the same platform you used to register originally. To log in, go to the landlord registration section on nidirect.gov.uk, select "Manage my registration," and enter the email address and password you set up when you first registered.

Once logged in, you can view your registration certificate, check your three-year expiry date, add or remove properties, update your personal or agent details, and start a renewal application when the time comes. All mid-term updates through the portal are free.

Forgotten Password

If you can't remember your password, the nidirect login page has a standard password reset option. Enter the email address linked to your account and you'll receive a reset link by email.

Check your spam and junk folders if the email doesn't arrive within a few minutes — automated messages from government portals often get filtered. If you're using a work email with strict filtering, check with your IT team.

Lost Access to Your Email Address

This is where things get more complicated. If the email address you registered with is no longer active — you changed providers, lost access to a work email after leaving a job, or simply forgot which one you used — you can't reset the password through the portal yourself.

For problems signing in to your nidirect account, contact nidirect account support at 0300 200 7868 (Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm) or [email protected]. Ask them what recovery steps are available for an account whose registered email is no longer accessible.

For landlord-registration questions, contact the Landlord Registration team at 0300 200 7821 (international: +44 300 200 7821) or [email protected].

Retrieving Your Registration Number

Your unique landlord registration number appears on your registration certificate — the PDF you received when you first registered. If you've lost the certificate, log into your nidirect account and download a replacement for free. There's no charge and no limit on how many times you can do this.

If you can't log in at all, there's another way to confirm your number: anyone can search the public register on nidirect by landlord name or property address. The search results show whether a landlord is registered and display their registration number. Search for yourself to confirm your number, then call the helpline to regain full account access.

Your registration number needs to appear on all written tenancy agreements, Tenancy Information Notices, rent receipts, and formal correspondence with tenants — so losing track of it creates an immediate compliance gap.

Keeping Your Account Secure

A few practical steps prevent the lockout scenario:

Save your registration certificate PDF in more than one place — cloud storage, a local folder, and ideally a physical printout in your property file. The certificate contains your registration number and exact three-year expiry date.

Use a personal email address you control long-term for the registration account, not a work or agent email that might change.

Record your expiry date somewhere independent of the portal — a calendar reminder, a note in your property binder, or a spreadsheet. The Registrar sends reminder notices eight weeks and at least four weeks before expiry, but if they hit spam, you need your own backup.

For a complete breakdown of the registration process, renewal timelines, and the joint-owner keycode workflow, the Northern Ireland Landlord Registration Guide walks through every step from first application to three-year renewal.
